Evaluation question two:How does our media product represent a particular social group?

We think our film represents social groups such as middle class working women as both of the detectives are females. Typically in most thriller films, detectives are usually men for example, David Miller and Detective William Somerset who were the detective in Seven. The fact that the villian is unidentified and faceless in itself presents a form of representation: stereotypically you may expect for the villian in a thriller to be male, with characters such as Kevin Spacey as the killer in Seven, Anothony Hopkins as the Hannibal Lecter and the character of the husband, Clyde Shelton, from Law abiding citizen. However, by not identifying any details of the killer and selectively using close up which do not imply or reveal any details that could identify gender, age nor ethnicity of the killer we have created a villian who is beyond such conventions: thus representing evil as being something which is not specific, and unbound by social groups. Evil is nameless, faceless and independent of any social group.
