Evaluation question one: In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

What ways does the your media product use develop or challenge forms of and conventions of real media products?

Our product was inspired by  David Fincher who directed the thriller se7ven starring Morgan freeman and Brad Pitt as detectives in search of a mystery serial killer who is using the 7 deadly sins as M.O's. After watching the openings to several different thrillers such as Momento, Law Abiding Citizen(LAC) and Silence of the Lambs(SOTL),initially our product had similar traits as all the other thriller opening.

As seen in our rough cut we had had a male protagonist which was similar to the conventions of the genre, however after reviewing the rough cut and discussing improvements and changes that needed to be made we agreed  to challenge a specific convention of the thriller genre.

We eventually decided that in our product would be a female detective as the protagonist .We felt that in doing this although it's similar to (SOTL) it would still be our own product and make the product unique.

Nevertheless we managed to stay within the main conventions of the thrillers genre. for example the Serial killer's face is not shown in the opening sequence, all that the audience see is the killer's back which sets the enigma.

The title of our product is Warrior Gene. Choosing a title like Warrior gene would keep the mystery and would intrigue the audience and make them want to watch  our product. Another convention that we have not chosen to challenge is keeping the villains identity unknown, not only would this not only would this be in line with the conventions but it was also intensify the tension in the opening scene.
Mise en scene was an effective means of
presenting this contrast of good and evil;
a dark costume with a hood makes the antagonist
seem mysterious and threatening.

In summary, we have tried to conform to the majority of conventions; with the establishment of an enigma surrounding the killer's identity, the classical representation of good versuevil, and aspects of a chase.The key way in which we have

challenged these conventions is by introducing a female protagonist: we feel that by doing so we have introduced a unique and interesting element that has yet to be represented by the thriller genre.
